# About lot matrix items
**Lot matrix items** are items that are packaged in different quantities and have different prices based on the quantity purchased, e.g., a can of soda that may be sold individually, or in 6-pack, 12-pack, or 24-pack quantities.
Lot matrix items typically use the **same lookup code** or **UPC code**. When a cashier or salesperson enters the lookup code or UPC code of a lot matrix item in POS, they are prompted to select the packaged quantity that the customer is purchasing from the **Lot Matrix Selection** screen.
When you create a lot matrix item in RMH, you can add the different packaged quantities by either selecting an existing item from the store database, or creating a new item using the **New Item Wizard**.
