# Configure custom fields for customer records

You can set up custom text, number, and date fields for customers records. Use these custom fields to capture additional information that is not captured in other fields. Custom fields can be a very useful way to build filters to identify customers when you are using wizards or generating reports.

1. Click **Setup**.
2. Expand **Miscellaneous**.
3. Click **Custom Fields**.
4. On the **Customer** tab, enter field labels for the following:

* **Custom Text:** You can enter field labels for up to five custom text fields. For example, if your store sells automotive parts or services, you might customize these text fields to capture information such as the make, model, year, and color of the customer's vehicle.
* **Custom Number:** You can enter field labels for up to five custom number fields. For example, if your store sells pet supplies and services, you might customize these number fields to capture information such as how many dogs, cats, birds, or other pets the customer has.
* **Custom Date:** You can enter field labels for up to five custom date fields. For example, you might customize these date fields to capture the customer's birthday if you offer birthday specials, or to capture the date the customer signed up for the store's Loyalty program, etc.

5. Click **Save And Close**.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.rmhpos.com/store-manager/manage-customers/setting-up-custom-fields.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
