Setting up kits

Kits contain items that are only sold together as one item; the items in kits are not sold separately. Kits are different from assembly items. This topic describes all steps required to set up kits in RMH.

Setting store rules for kits

There are two ways to determine the cost of kits: you can manually calculate and enter the cost of kits when you create the kit, or you can enable RMH to automatically calculate the cost of kits based on the items included in the kit. This procedure describes how to enable RMH to automatically calculate the cost of kits.

1. Click File | Configuration.
2. Click Store Rules.
3. Expand Item Options.
4. Select Calculate cost of kits.
5. Click Save And Close.

Setting ordering options for kits

This procedure only applies if kits are built in store using store inventory.

Note: If the store orders prebuilt kits from suppliers, e.g., first aid kits or tool kits, you would add the prebuilt kits as a standard items and reorder them based on the Reorder Point and Restock Level values defined for the item.

1. Click Setup.
2. Expand Inventory/Purchasing.
3. Click Order Setting.
4. On the Global Option tab, select Kit Reorder to consider kit item quantities when reordering kits.
5. Click Save And Close.

Creating kits

Pre-requisites: You must add all kit items to the store database before you can create a kit.

1. Click Merchandising.
2. Click Items.
3. Click New.
4. Select Standard Item and click OK.
5. On the General tab:
a. For the Item Lookup Code, enter a unique lookup code for the kit.
b. From Item type, select Kit.
c. Select a Department and Category.
d. Enter other fields, as required.
6. On the Kit tab:
a. Under Manage Kits, click New.
b. (Optional) Click on a column header, click in the Find field, and enter a search term for the item.
c. Double-click the item, or select the item you want to add to the kit and click OK.
d. Continue adding items until all required items are included in the kit.
e. In the Quantity column, enter the quantity of each item that should be included in the kit.
f. Click Build to build the kit.
g. In the Kit dialog, enter the number of kits to build and click OK.

Note: The number of kits to build becomes the On hand quantity of the kit on the Inventory tab. (Correspondingly, the On hand quantities of items included in the kit are decreased based on the quantity of items included in the kit and the number of kits to build.) If the Calculate cost of kits store rule was selected, RMH automatically calculates the cost of the kit based on the items included in the kit and updates the Cost fields on the General and Pricing tabs.

7. Click Save And Close.

Breaking kits

If you want to reduce the number of kits you have in stock, you should not manually change the On hand quantity of the kit on the Inventory tab. Instead, you should break the kit. When you break a kit, the On hand quantity of the kit is decreased and the On hand quantities of the items included in the kit are increased.

1. Click Merchandising.
2. Click Items.
3. (Optional) Click on a column header, click in the Find field, and enter a search term for the kit.
4. Double-click the kit that you want to break.
5. Click on the Kit tab.
6. Under Manage Kits, click Breakout.
7. In the Kit dialog, enter the number of kits to breakout and click OK.
8. Click Save And Close.
